Movie Review: Sucker Punch

I heard a lot of negative comments about this movie. At first I wasn't going to watch it, but I wanted to see for myself just how "awful" it was. It turned out that I ended up really liking it and really not liking it. Let me explain.

I didn't like the story line. I thought there could have been more detail to the background of the story. How did the mother die? How did the mother meet the step dad? I thought it was strange that the oldest daughter had pigtails for her hairstyle. 


I liked the action parts. I liked the this story was focused around young women taking control of their situations but I was wondering why the setting had to be set in a mental institution (the reality) just to get that message across. I like all the actresses. But I wondered why they didn't have one representing each race. They had a really tan girl in there, but sorry that doesn't pass off for a "black girl" just in case you didn't know. Tan and brown are two different colors. 


Lets not get me started though.


I guess, this movie kind of reminded me of sailor moon except with just a dark concept. 


Now, for what I didn't really like.


I didn't like that the main character babydoll was a grown ass woman dressed up as a little girl. That's just ridiculous. I mean, did she walk around like that the whole time since she was born. I think her younger sister was more mature than she was. 


The whole blood scene in the closet. FAKE! That didn't even look like real blood and there wasn't even a lot of that fake blood. If you are going to do a blood scene at least make it look real or don't do it at all. I guess, death scene are hard to do, but not if you know what you are doing.


I didn't like that babydoll had that cool sword but she didn't have any other cool powers. 
For example. The first with the dragon was lame. The whole time I was like "yeah right." In real life if she were to fight that dragon she would have gotten burned to death by the fire it was breathing. The way she killed that dragon was lame too. 


I didn't have too many complaints about the movie except that I wish it was like the other fantasy movies, like batman, spider man, X-men, lord of the rings, even harry potter I could believe that that over this. But it was good though. I personally liked it because the main characters were women and nowhere in the movie did one of them FALL IN LOVE as it is expected when it comes to most action movies.
