Gospel Knowledge: Six:10 Clothing Brand

The name of her company is called Six:10 Clothing Brand. It's inspired from the book of Ephesians 6:10-20. The Armor of God. And I have been in business for about 3 years now. She discovered fashion was her passion around middle school when she couldn’t really find clothes she wanted that complemented her style.

She remembers her very first design was in 6th grade. The story behind it is that she was working on her bike while wearing one of her favorite shirts. Somehow she ended up with oil stains along the side of it. She just didn’t want to throw it away because of course the stain didn’t want to come out. So she took some fabric paint and painted over the stains. It was crappy looking but she wore it proudly. Yet, on the other hand her first actual constructed piece was a pair of pajamas she made in college. She smiles saying she didn’t know how to use a sewing machine until then but her family was the first to see her designs.

In college she wanted to be a freelance fashion illustrator, selling her designs to well known clothing companies. So, towards graduation she shared her freelancing idea with a friend. She encouraged her to move forth but to keep her designs for herself because God gave them to her to keep, not to sell. Things changed, so this required her to change her title into a Fashion Designer. So this inspired her to move towards the direction she is going in now. Also, what inspired her brand structure and brand name is the word of God. She wanted to make known the mystery of the gospel by making people knowledgeable. Every piece designed is inspired by a scripture in the Bible.

Six:10 Clothing Brand caters to all. But this upcoming Spring 2017 collection will target the young people to the mature adults. She has a passion to encourage young people, to steer them in the right direction. Her Brand will do just that, planting a seed of positive energy. Her Brand has a message to send out, Ya Dig!

Her latest fall 2016 designs were basic, just some simple cotton sweaters and knitted fall/winter hats. Which she called the helmet of salvation. People really took to the idea and always asked what it meant, she would tell them and they would just smile at her.

There were many setbacks, money being the biggest issue. She took her designs to manufacturers to get her line produced but things weren’t really working out for me. She asked God like “what is it, why are things not working out for me”? She never gave up nor lost hope and God revealed to her that he gave her the knowledge and anointed her hands to construct her own designs. He gave her this gift. So once she realized her potential, she got to work. So her Spring 2017 collection (said with swag) is “gonna be dope!" Glory be to God!

Her dream fashion show would be one where she gets to show at least 24 pieces in a collection. She wants to be on a really big stage that’s outside, with a big crowd and the atmosphere is lit. #POSTIVEVIBESONLY lol! Also, she wants her and her sisters to perform a song at my fashion show. She think that would be hot with us all on stage together.

If she could design for a top supermodel it would be Chantelle Brown because she is not afraid to be herself. She shows confidence, she can wear many styles and look great in it. Also, she believes that model has an unspoken statement in her personality that shows encouragement to other females.

If she could do a photo-shoot anywhere in the world with her designs It would be between Brooklyn, New York or Tokyo. They both have culture, looks fun and exciting to be at. But if she had to choose a place to start it would be Brooklyn, New York.
