Conscious Rap: "Music Is My Soul..."

His name is Nathan Torres, he goes by the name: FOOLISH...! 
A 33 year young Hispanic MC and Lyricist who makes his own beats and writes his own Lyrics. He is truly one of a kind. He's originally from Southern California but he has been residing in Austin Texas since 2001. 

His current album is called " Music Is My Soul." The Inspiration came from his older brother. He is the Art Artist in the Family while he (Foolish) creates through Music. He painted a phrase on one of his works " Is My Soul" and it just seemed to match as far as his gift and what makes his soul special in its ability to communicate through the music he makes.


He is honored that he has the ability to write his own lyrics. He only says so because most people who claim to be MCs, Rappers, Yappers, Mumblers or whatever really don't. To him they are just a face and an image attached to the work of others. Currently he is more on the creative side but he does seek out contracts for Mixing and Mastering.  

Best advice Ever Given

Before he graduated from Austin Community College in 2014, he had an instructor who taught song writing. One day as the class was in a discussion and opinions session the teacher gave them this to reflection on " ...these days in the Music Industry, we have few originals and a whole bunch of me toos. Which one are you gonna be?"   

He shared that he started making beats before he started writing. The crazy thing is that those two abilities ran together for him suddenly. He was making beats while he was writing the lyrics with a thesaurus in hand. Yes, he uses a dictionary and a thesaurus when he writes. He likes to collect his thoughts before he dives into his environment of the beat he creates.  

When talking about the process of his music. He actually likes all of his music. But if he was to select one: A Test. The beat. The lyrics. The message nonetheless is loud and clear. No BS. It is just him putting issues on blast about the game and what it has become.

He has performed only a few times. Yet, more performances rising. He is good with being in front of an audience and telling his story of a life of being broke.  But, that also means he has nothing to lose and all to gain as he presses forward to be where he wants to be and do what he wants to do.  BUT, If he could perform with any Artist in the industry today it would be: Tech n9ne. He is one of the Artists he listens to among the few who have skill. He chose him because he enjoys his music and his ability behind the mic.

He is working on saving more money to purchase equipment that he can definitely use to continue to create. The beats aren't getting out of his head on their own. But, of course anyone in the audio world knows that audio equipment is pretty damn pricey. So, he is currently balancing a steady budget and trying to get some performance time and networking opportunities in order for better results that he can work with.
