Other Artists Just Can't Cut It...
An inspiration to many what separates him from other Artists is his personal story. Due to a medical mistake, he was born with cerebral palsy. He was told that because of his condition, he would be unable to walk, talk, or perform many essential tasks relative to daily living, without assistance. But thanks to the power of prayer, help from his family, and belief in himself, he was able to not only live normal life, but do amazing things. He wants people to feel like they can also overcome adversity. For that reason, he uses his music career to inspire.
Demetrius Philson, better known as D.E.M.E. (pronounced DEE-ME) or the "Dude Every MC Envies." Is originally from Newark, NJ. Although he feels being regarded as a Lyricist an incredible honor, he actually considers himself a Master of Ceremony. He distinguishes himself that way because he says being a true MC requires the mastery of all aspects of being an Artist including the realization that lyricism is an integral but small piece of the greater "music world" puzzle.
He originally started making music as a means to express himself and cope with hardship. He was introduced to rap through many family members, with his uncles Rennie and Barry being the most responsible. Being familiar with the original roots of hip-hop, they preferred listening to pioneers such as: NWA, Nas, Biggie, Jay-Z, and Big L to name a few. Those were the same Artists that inspired him from an early age too.
He has yet to complete an album, but he does have a five-star mixtape out called "Back to Basics." There were many factors that led to the creation of that project. But, he would say that the hunger to follow his entertainment dreams was the biggest one.
He writes his own music. His favorite song is called "Computer Love." It is a song that samples the classic song "Computer Love" by Zapp and Roger Troutman, with a special focus on social media. It is his favorite song because he feels it emphatically checks all the boxes when evaluating a song for "Hit" potential. He has no doubt that it will be a game changing record in the near future.
Performances and concerts are very important in any Artists' Career. He can't recall the exact number of appearances, but he goes on to say that between open mics, cyphers, freestyle battles, showcases, competitions, opening gigs, and promo tours, he has performed in nothing less than 100 shows.
His most memorable stage performance was opening for "Styles P" in Henrico, NC in 2016. The performance was held as part of a bike and ATV rally. The weather was beautiful, the DJs were great, and the crowd was really vocal and receptive. After his set, he got the chance to meet and chill with Styles. It was a big deal because he is one of DEMEs' favorite down to earth Artists. He really appreciated the experience.
Keep Your Dreams Alive...
The Best advice he ever received was to always follow his dreams. He was constantly encouraged to work hard, believe, and to never limit himself because of the opinions of others. He would say that choosing to wholeheartedly follow that advice is one of the biggest reasons for his current success.
There are many Popular Artists that he would pick to work with but if he could one choose one it would be: Kendrick Lamar. Why? He says he appreciates the originality and creativity featured in his shows. He can also tell that his team takes every detail into account. It seems like every time he has a major show, his performance goes viral!
At this very moment, he's preparing music and marketing strategies for a promotional run in Atlanta, GA. He also is in the initial planning stages for a performance during the BET Awards weekend in LA. On an overall scale, his looking forward to the completion and release of his debut album "Straight From The Kitchen", and the growth and expansion of his IIWII brand. His goal is to be the best Artist of all time.
