Shaun Redrum: Risk Brings Reward

Best advice Received

“Embrace the struggle and write songs about everything as you went through it.”

Favorite song he has written is:

“Love You Like I Do” from the Risk Brings Reward.

Shaun Redrum is from Raleigh NC. He’s an Independent Artist searching to get the maximum out the rap game and seeking global exposure.

https://youtu.be/FM_QOTToZ-k

Having the ability to create music that not only engages the audience but also leaves them wanting more is considered a “Gift.’ He is versatile and relatable and considers himself to be a Lyricist because of how well he can put words together on a variety of instrumentals with any type of style of rap. He definitely believes himself to be a “a true Hip Hop Artist to the core!”

His inspiration to create music was inspired by Snoop Dogg's Doggystyle album. After listening to that album, he wrote his first song at 11 years old in the 6th grade. He knew then that Hip Hop would be apart of his life forever!

😎💥Current Album💥😎

As an Artist there should be that underlying reason for why you want to make it in this game; what motivates you? What's your purpose for dominating in the Rap and Hip-Hop industry?

So Shaun's current album was inspired by him walking in complete bold faith. He wanted to start a new beginning! (Nothing wrong with that...) So, he left his job of 6 years and from there kind of went into his new journey blindly.

He took risks and made moves that he didn’t believe would actually work but later found that he was being rewarded with constant wins! He added with enthusiasm: “because you have to take chances on yourself in order to gain…” So that was his inspiration and all the songs recorded for the project were created during that time in his growth.

All of his songs are 100% authentic and written by him! Any collaborations yet ? No, hasn’t collaborated with a lot of Artists’ as of late; why not? Well, he kind of feels that a lot of Artists don't understand the (music) business and still view it as just a hobby. But, he has an excellent ear for Good Quality Sound so he is still very much open to working with numerous Artists’ and Creative Minds in the near future.

It's not enough just to write music but you also have to get in front of an audience. He's performed at around 11-20 venues so far and counting. His most memorable stage performance was at Volume 11 The Tavern back in 2010. That’s where he practiced his skills, talents and gift and really grew himself into a Lyricist and Performer as a Rap Artist.

How Exciting would it be if  Jay-Z, Drake or Future called you right now and said they wanted to collaborate with you? Pretty damn exciting! I know! But that celebrity figure that Shaun Redrum would work with would be: Gucci Mane.

"Why?"🤔 He said he admires his mentorship and the knowledge he shares. He also likes the fact that he has been in the game for a minute but still bring the full energy to the stage! He also has found a way to reinvent himself and still be successful. “That's someone I can look up to…” Shaun Redrum states in full confidence.

💥What's next for #1 of  Raleigh's Hottest Artist?

The future is full of success, yet right now he's working on singles, looking into promotion and expanding his brand in all areas! We should be on the look out for excellent new material from him in the next couple of months. Also, he just finished doing like a boom bap Hip Hop run (Can't wait to 👂 it)! He's just working on making good music and growing his catalog.

Brian Fury: Must Hear "Sparks & Explosions"

www.brianfurymusic.com

Brian Fury

Best Advice:

"blood is thicker than water but the agreement is thicker than blood"

Well-known Artists He Would Work with

Jadakiss and Fabolous! He has always dreamed of working with raw talent!

Originally born in Brooklyn, NY

Relocated to Durham NC in 2011

He believes with confidence that he is more of a Recording Artist and Song Writer at the moment but he doesn’t limit himself. He knows he will be performing on the stage more in the near future. He is currently promoting his new single "Sparks & Explosions" produced by Lokey in partnership with Blackops Militia set to release with an upcoming World Breaker: Fury EP (the song has already been praised by Insomniac Magazine and OT Genasis himself). The World Breaker Fury was mixed by Absalute from Bullcity Sound studio.

Every Artist and Creative has a reason for their creations. So, the concept for World Breaker signifies strength, - that being a balance in music productivity which shows diversity. The Sparks & Explosions references the wonderful beginnings of relationships until those beginnings are worn out, “something I’m sure a lot of people can relate too,” he adds thoughtfully. He writes all his lyrics but he’s always open to working with a variety of Artists to bring to life his captivating Masterpieces. His current featured Artists are with: BoogottiShiceRed @shystyred172 and Rasheeda Wallace @rasheedawallace

His reason for getting into music is a simple one. He explains: “I got tired of hearing garbage on the radio so I started writing...” His uncle was a DJ at the time and they spent countless hours passing the Mic during events and during that time he understood why he is such a huge fan of: The Lox, Fabolous and anyone with actual lyrical skill delivery and ability.

Most Artists’ will say that they Love all their songs but when asked to reflect on which one would be his favorite he shared that he and  “Boogottishicered have released 3 mix- tapes since beginning their collaborations two years ago (2018). But, their standards on music quality is very high, so it’s hard to say which one, but if he HAD to pick a song, he would say "Sparks & Explosions" because of the he feels the audience will definitely relate to it!

Concerts & Performances

He hasn't had many performances, at the most maybe 2 or 3. But, back in 2012 he did perform at The Pour House! Of course, the crowd was awesome! He shares with enthusiasm “It was such a pleasure performing there!” In his element he had to evolve as an Artist first before he just started putting himself out there completely. So that meant perfecting his music craft and delivery. He truly feels that now he’s at a point where he’s satisfied that his music will go internationally viral.

What makes him standout from the rest of the Artists? Well he shares with a joyful confidence “not many good Puerto Rican Artists out there! Also I have a unique vocal sound unlike anyone, although some have tried to compare lol. My flow is custom to the beat I write to, the delivery will always have a unique element to the harmonies on that beat!” There is no stopping his passion once he gets started!

So, we are excited to hear more music and attended more performances to see how much he masters his artistry. But of course with covd-19 going on it is really hard to gauge what will happen. The goal is always longevity, and monetization which he and his team are in the process of doing now. His accomplishments have already begun to Wow audiences, so with World Breaker Fury being finished, now they are just waiting to pick a release date. He and BoogottiShice are working on a joint LP album but are in the earlier stages of production! And that’s something we all look forward to hearing!

NCC Records: Promotes Indy Artists

James “Mistajay” Genwright II majored in Business administration. But he wasn’t sure which direction to take his degree in but somehow his heart was strongly interested in: the Music.

In the creation of making dreams come true, he and his team went through several different incarnations and mangers to gain control over their direction in music as a group. So his Inspiration to start NCC Records: North Carolina Commissioned Records was born from that desire but that was just the beginning. Okay so, what is NCC Records? It is a record and entertainment label that provides music services, writing features, sponsorship, promotion and distribution. The company is really aimed at promoting the success of their communities by sponsoring Indy Artists in music and film projects.

As the CEO of a very successful and ever growing company the ability to lead in certain situations is a major key component. It requires you to be a good listener willing to learn as well as intelligently delegate and remain inquisitive while staying on top of the newest trends in the industry. As we know life wouldn’t be as exciting without a couple challenges. But they are met with diligence and professionalism. There are times when decisions have to be made quickly, from deciding whether to keep with the newest sound or go in a different direction to finding who to work and network with that will be just as passionate about getting to the next level as you.

There are a variety of ways to create success and one of the things that this CEO would like to see more of is content on the company website that reflects a diverse range of entertainment endeavors. Which he hopes will lead to eventually working with heavy hitters like the multi-faceted Ice Cube and Kathy Hughes who started in radio with music and turned her vision into an entertainment empire.

FUN FACT: Participated in the Indie Film game with a couple small acting roles!

Y'man Dog: The Hype of "RESILIENCE"

 Not* Just* An* Artist

He Has an Independent Label, N.U. Breed (Acronym defined as: Naturally-Unique) and his self-proclaimed branding as the “Gangsta-Humanitarian."

Best Advice from a O.G. of his @bigfoxxdmv :
“ Always check your money; Regardless of who the transaction is with. And if they happen to get offended that you opt to check your money then there is a possibility that they’re on some #bs..."
The quote at the beginning of the song “RESILIENCE”
Off of his debut album (Track #6) DOGMA – (Dog Eat Dog) where it says: Nothing splendid has ever been achieved except by those that dare believe, that something within them is superior to circumstance. - Bruce Barton

Current Album is titled DOGMA - (Dog Eat Dog)
MAKE some noise for Forest Heights, Maryland’s own: Y'man Dog!!!! He’s from a town in Prince George County, Maryland, United States. It’s a part of the larger city of Oxon Hill, MD that’s iconic for the new National Harbor Conference Center and Resort.

He’s a songwriter and recording Artist who thinks of himself to be a “Lyrical-MC” He’s fluent with songwriting therefore he creates his own material; and from a lyricist’s perspective he’s excellent at painting pictures with words that build songs like an architect...so he’s pretty much both.
He writes ALL of his lyrics and for this project he did collaborate with some dope talent to complete choruses and hooks on this album: @raythemoonchild (Resilience, Dog Eat Dog), @Blumondale (Tonight’s Tha Nite, So Into You), @__voyce (I Ain’t Lookin’) so check out the finished product!
The main reason he got into writing songs was due to his intolerance for messing up during freestyles. He also wanted to be able to remember hot lines and phrases afterwards so he opted to become a writer. As far as being inspired by another individual musically, he shares that the earlier albums of: 2Pac, Nas, T.R.U., WU-TANG Clan, Spice-1, U.G.K., Jay-Z, Redman, and Geto Boys inspired his lyrical inception.

Artists work hard on music daily but every now and they create song that really pushes their limits and undeniably, that nomination goes to: 'RESILIENCE' as his favorite song.

The dedication and commitment to finishing this project made Y'man Dog super-selective about the instrumental chosen to marry the lyrics of this song.  He personally shares: “It's just that feeling you get as an Artist when you feel that you've superseded your expectations with track production. Shout out to @makaihbeats for the epic instrumental!” In getting hyped about his favorite track he had a few other tracks like 'WORTH', I AIN'T LOOKIN', and TONIGHT'S THA NITE he was passionate about too!

Many Artists start out with a grand dream but in the 30 to 40 performances and showcases part of that moment happened at his most memorable stage performance which took place in Mantanzas, Cuba at the 2018 Urban Hip-Hop Music Festival.

The English translations of the tracks he performed may have been in English but the body language of head nods and dances mixed with cameras flashing with cheer verified that the vibes of Y'man Dog were accepted in the Cuban community with love and admiration. So, Shout out he says “to @africandiasporaalliance , @omarmartinez5034 , @linda_stansbury for providing me with the best accommodations and dope memories abroad.” That’s love!

Anyone who does music has at least one Major Artist that inspires them but this genius mind has a few Artist like: Jay-Z, Rick Ross, Kendrick Lamar, J. Cole, 2 Chains, Young Thug, Lil Wayne, YG, 21 Savage, Bardi and Moneybagg Yo that he could name. The his reason he chose these Artists he shares “is solely because of their reputations in executing phenomenal tracks/performances. Period.”

We are extremely excited to see all the Great things that happen next! He is continuing to pray and work in accordance of the blessings that he’s ask to receive, he shares “Reach For The Stars!” with enthusiasm. He’s staying focused as he politics and networks with professionals that can assure progressive track production, quality song collaboration, epic video treatment & production, lucrative management opportunities, significant placements, as well as various show bookings and or tour possibilities. He considers himself to be a Career Artist so having longevity is his duty in order for him to ultimately succeed in this industry, so as far as his music Career that’s greatly solidified!

NEXT MOVES
YET the work doesn’t stop! Right now, he’s in production of his full-length sophomore album titled 'Gangsta-Humanitarian.' He anticipates an EP for this project to be released around November 2020.

Thunder for Lyrics: Arkansas Bo

 Arkansas Bo

"I speak the truth and the truth is not always pretty. People will tell you how you need to change and follow the crowd, as for Arkansas Bo, I stand out because I am Arkansas Bo, the lyricist."

Thunder for Lyrics...

Born Marlon Jennings Jr. IS an American Hip Hop Artist from Stuttgart, Arkansas (Sugatown). He began his Hip Hop career at the age of thirteen. He became inspired by the likes of legendary rappers such as Scarface, 8 Ball & MJG, UGK, Outkast, and many more. Bo became a lyrical monster in his lyrical writing style. His track, Arkansas Sound, commanded the attention of Scarface of the Geto Boys and owner of the label FACEMOB MUSIC.  Arkansas Bo's baritone voice brings thunder to his brutally honest lyrics that always carry a conscious message.

BO, has always written his own material. He collaborated with quite a few people, a couple are 607 and Mousequake. Together they are always dope. People don't know that he has always been the type to express himself in the arts. He majored in art and sculpturing in college. He also writes poetry and he began transforming his art of poetry into the art of Hip Hop music. He was inspired by the likes of legendary rappers such as Scarface, 8 Ball & MJG, UGK, Outkast, and He has opened for many Hip Hop legends including:Paul Wall, Lil Boosie, Bunn B, Big Krit, Fat Joe, Tela, Devin the Dude, Scarface, Webbie, 8 Ball & MJG, and more. He also did major collaborations with Devin the Dude (Rap-A-Lot), Mr. Serve-On (No Limit), and featured on Multi-Platinum Producer, Keith Clizark's Still Burnin 2 mixtape. He makes it a point with other Arkansas Artists such as; D-Dirt, Touda, and a special collaboration with E Dubb on the conscious project: Black Lives Don't Matter.

His favorite song he has written: is Black Lives Don’t Matter. He loves it because it’s true. He wanted to help bring awareness to police brutality as well as lift his community up. So, he and some other artists from Arkansas got together to bring out the message. Bo continues to amazes us with his latest album. He was inspired to create one of his most well-known songs Ubiquitous because he feels "the state of HIP HOP is slipping. He grew up on Hip Hop so he was taught to be proud of the culture. The women taught young girls that "black girls do rock" and now he feels like hip hop is lost on the current generation

See Into the Future

Currently Bo is working on his next project. He has a show in Dallas, TX in June of this year. He will be performing live at Club RBC Deep Ellum.  While he is performing all over the United States he also had time to write his next album :Tide (Tired) of this Shit, and he's getting ready to go into the studio to record. He and his team continue to promote his current singles, Man of the Year, Man Say, Livin’ A Lie, Ubiquitous, and Thick Wit It (ft Devin the Dude).

His work can be found on all available streaming platforms. As well as:

Artist of the People: ImTheFatboy

He is the:
 Artist of the People
Independent Hip-Hopper, from Greensboro, NC (North Side, Summit & Cone) known for his Black and white sketch Art, glasses enthusiast and proud dad: ImTheFatboy.” He’s an Artist, a Creative at heart, and an introvert who spent a lot of time in the RDU area yet busted out of his shell early on all for the love of music!

Well Known Artists That Inspired "ImTheFatboy"

  • The Notorious B.I.G: "He was "black and ugly as ever and still had it all. He didn't have suave' like Heavy D or muscles like Treach. He was dark skin, fat, and cock-eyed yet gave a mountain of hope to a young heavyset kid in North Carolina."

  • Eminem: "...he lived, breathed, and ate rap music! Despite things like a rough childhood, homelessness, and/or not always knowing how he was going to feed his child he still went all in for rap wherever he could."

Weird Al: "...he taught me a lot about individuality in music. Doing your own thing, carving your own lane and being your own strange, quirky, genuine self despite what the critics may object to."

IF he could perform with any popular Artist in the industry today he would chose:

  • J. Cole, or Da Baby for the love of Carolina Culture.
  • Weird Al or Eminem so he can make an attempt to not geek by meeting one of his faves
  • Lastly he’d make some classic music in the process with Big K.R.I.T, Juvenile, Timbaland, and Future.

Best Advice
A lot of the advice he received when he first started was simply "go hard" and it was always so vague. So to expand on that for his readers he adds: “put on the blinders, put your head down, and work. You are your own best friend and your own worst enemy. Don't worry about what the next Artist is doing, or what the DJs and radio may want. Focus on the people that enjoy your craft for what it is.

He continues with “Two genuine supporters is better than a thousand randoms who won't give you the time of day. Start small, use what you've got, and build. It takes time and effort, but it's totally doable. And this isn't just for music but for any venture that you may be interested in!”

(Doesn't Get Much More Honest Than That!)

He’s considers himself to a little bit of an MC and a Lyricist. The meaning of the title MC hits differently for some but for this Artist he describes it as: “MC still has that old school meaning of "Master of Ceremonies" or "Move the Crowd" and when he performs he likes to think he gets the crowd involved and keeps the atmosphere pumping! But then he reflects on what the meaning of being a Lyricist is to him: “As far as a lyricist goes that's all about pen, substance, subject matter, variety..." He can tell a story, or make people dance, or set a romantic tone and the vocabulary he chooses to place over a well-crafted beat plays a major role in how people receive his songs.

In 2010 he decided to start getting on stages, networking, and taking things more seriously as an Artist. Then between the years of 2010-2011 he performed at least a hundred times throughout NC. After that he lost count. But it's been a lot and now he’s putting his own concerts and showcases together.

He does “pen” all of his own music. He’s been writing for over 20 years and he’s been told he’s gotten pretty good at it. On his up and coming album "Falcon Heavy" he shares his experience working with: The V and  Juhara, two singers with incredible style and range.

One is VA singer The V (aka Von Sinatra) on his song "Taste" which is a more mellow, Golden Era Hip Hop kind of song about enjoying the finer things in life. The other singer he worked with is Juhara out of Ohio, who absolutely aced his song "I Love It" and really set the tone. It's a smooth track about how when people in a relationship are chasing goals they often may not have much free time to just enjoy the company of their partner. But also it shares how wonderful the experience a couple can have together once they do make the time for one another.

His music changes lives daily but three of his songs that really stand out first are: "Pipe Dream", "Cry for Attention", or "Weight" because they were written during a tough time. He shares with deep reflection how he was homeless, struggling and how the notebook became his journal of expression, so those songs are powerful.

Yet, his most well received song is titled: "Sumo" which helped him line up many of the  opportunities and connections he still utilizes currently. He’s received great feedback from the song, and had an awesome video attached that did around 1.5k views. Even more when he incorporated the song into his performance (complete with a fitting and surprising collapse at the end lol) it was an over the top track for him. The song "Sumo" received a lot of love the summer of 2012 and 2013!

His most memorable stage performance to this day is still the night he performed at the Bull City Music Awards at the prestigious and well known Carolina Theatre in Downtown Durham. There was a packed house full of people more than ready to cheer on their favorite Indies, opportunity to network with some heavy hitters in NC (a couple 102 Jamz/K97.5 hosts and DJs were there, and even the local news pulled up to cover the awards show.

Debra Morgan from WRAL News attended the event, pulled him to the side to tell him how much she enjoyed his performance and she took a picture with him! He opened for Chubb Rock and received the first reward of the night! All in all it was the most incredible night he’s had musically!

He is in constant creative mode so, his upcoming current album "Falcon Heavy" is his current passion project! It was inspired by Elon Musk and Space X's launch of the "Falcon Heavy 9" rocket which was heralded as the first space launch by an independent company. In his opinion it signified creating “your own lane and going against the grain.” He's also hoping to inspire newer artists to do their own thing rather than what they think others may or may not like.

The Journey For Success Continues...
He is currently learning marketing, networking, fan building, content creation, and event planning/promotion. As a creative he gets stuck in the cycle of creation. He makes something crafty and artful then puts it out. But in the music industry there's a lot more to it than that so he's learning more about his demographic from a human perspective, expanding on his connections, and of course putting together his own showcases and concerts. He has aspirations of possibly taking a more behind the scenes role (artist development or something similar) rather than trying to stay in the spotlight. But right now he's enjoying the ride!

He's very focused right now on several projects as he's polishing his upcoming 6 track EP "Falcon Heavy" and pushing his single "The Biggest Loser." He's working on his first concert "Live 95" (4/19/19 321 Fonville St. Burlington. Tickets on Eventbrite) as well as another in Durham which is be added later. He's also putting together a merchandise line as well as his website and preparing for a couple performances in South Florida at the end of March.
